This is just to say how much I appreciate all the kindness and care everyone at the Pentlow has shown to Arthur during his time with you. How well he has done and how well you have done!

Haggis for dinner at Pentlow

Activities Coordinator Catherine Adams, with Piper Donald Brown

Pentlow Nursing Home, Eastbourne, celebrated with a Burn's lunch complete with Haggis and a Piper.

Piper Donald Brown thrilled the residents with his musical interlude, and also made a 'house call' to one resident in his room.

The dining room was decked in tartan, and Mr Roger Perry addressed the Haggis. Everyone had a 'wee dram' as the Haggis was paraded through for all the residents to see.

Activities Coordinator Catherine Adams also dressed for the occasion!

Sparrows miss out on treats!

Resident Joyce Valerio hangs a feeder for the birds

Pentlow Nursing Home, Eastbourne, took part in the 2012 RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch.

Residents enjoyed preparing gourmet bird treats such as fat balls, and restocking the feeders in the gardens, before settling down with bird spotter charts for a pleasant hour birdwatching.

Mavis Maloney, one of the residents preparing 'birdy treats',  was helped by Activities Coordinator Catherine Adams, herself a keen bird watcher!

The garden at Pentlow, a secluded spot, has several feeders and a large bird table and is an ideal refuge for the hungry bird. Bob Tooley, 90, helped to clean and refill the large bird bath. Bob is a day visitor, who comes to Pentlow 3 times a week, for company, to pursue his interests, and for the great hot food cooked up in the Pentlow Kitchen! (They even cook for meals on wheels).

During the count, Pentlow was visited by Mr & Mrs Blackbird, as well as a variety of great tits and bluetits, woodpidgeons and a robin. Sadly though, for the second year running, no sparrows were seen.

Catherine added to the enjoyment and fascinated the residents with an 'app' on her smartphone which allows you to select and play different birdsongs.

Festive Bazaar attracts Mayor

Pentlow Nursing Home was visited by the mayor during their Christmas bazaar.

The Mayor of Eastbourne Cllr Carolyn Heaps, resident Betty Coleman and Manager Lesley Wicks were photographed during the event at the Eastbourne Nursing home.

Hot chestnuts, mulled wine and mince pies were sampled, and a raffle and sale of donated items took place.

Money raised will go into the residents fund which is used for extra outings, and items for activities and recreation.

Mayor Heaps is a long standing friend of Pentlow Nursing Home, and residents are always delighted by her visits.

Macmillan Coffee Morning success

The big coffee morning is always an annual event we like to support, and this year was no exception.

Lesley Wicks and staff from Pentlow Nursing Home, Eastbourne, supported by visits from their residents, manned a stall in the town to raise funds and offer delicious home made produce to passers by.

We were suprised to make the paper, with the Eastbourne Herald featuring a photograph of us in action!

Manager Lesley thanked those who contributed and helped to make the day possible. The day raised £300 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

To me it was quite evident that regardless of the role, whether it might be nursing, caring, catering, office, housekeeping, maintenance or grounds, (my apologies for those I may not have included), everyone was totally committed and dedicated to caring not only for the residents but the relatives as well.
