This is just to say how much I appreciate all the kindness and care everyone at the Pentlow has shown to Arthur during his time with you. How well he has done and how well you have done!

Nigel Waterson Dines At Pentlow

Eastbourne MP Nigel Waterson, today, Friday 26 June, officially unveiled Pentlow Nursing Home’s new top spec kitchen, and presented cook Norma Else, from Old Town Eastbourne, with tickets for the ballet at Covent Garden to celebrate her 20 years’ of dedicated service.

Norma is part of the passionate team of four chefs at the Canford Healthcare home in Old Town. They carefully prepare a staggering 2,200 meals a week, for residents, visitors and the  Pentlow Meal Delivery Service, The kitchen currently makes over 100,000 meals a year and the investment in the new facilities brings room to increase this.

MP Nigel Waterson said: “Congratulations to Norma and to the commitment of Pentlow to continuous improvement. The name Pentlow has always stood for excellence of care in my constituency. This is just as true of the meals service, which is second to none. This new kitchen is a wonderful investment - and one that makes a very immediate and positive impact on residents and community clients throughout Eastbourne and beyond.”

Manager Lesley Wicks, Meals Manager Jenny Kent and Chef Manager Jonathan Coombe, with input from residents and delivery service clients, meticulously plan the monthly menu to ensure fresh, nutritionally balanced meal choices, which include client’s favourites.

Jonathan, from Old Town Eastbourne, said: “The investment in these new facilities will make us even more efficient in the kitchen and facilitate increased versatility in preparation. Our focus is always on providing a nutritious, balanced, tasty meal to residents and delivery clients. I am looking forward to turning on the new ovens!”

Norma said: “I have worked at Canford since it first opened. Back then there were only 17 residents and no meals service. Over the last 20 years the home has grown in size considerably and feels like an extension to my family. This improved kitchen is really exciting, as it will help us better provide for all those receiving Pentlow’s delicious meals.”

The new Pentlow kitchen has intelligent cookers providing the ability to cook food, to exact temperatures, in a quarter of the time of ordinary ovens, ensuring maximum retention of nutrients. They also indicate when cleaning is required, down to the quantity of tablets to use.

Pentlow meals delivery service and meals for Pentlow residents can include breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and supper. Even the delivered meals are served hot on a china plate ready to be eaten.

To me it was quite evident that regardless of the role, whether it might be nursing, caring, catering, office, housekeeping, maintenance or grounds, (my apologies for those I may not have included), everyone was totally committed and dedicated to caring not only for the residents but the relatives as well.
